Delhi Shuts Down Cinema Halls Amid Rising Number of COVID-19 Cases

The Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, announced yesterday that due to the rising number of COVID cases in the city and an increase in Omicron variant patients, they have decided to adopt strict restrictions in the city until further notice. There has been a sudden surge in the number of COVID numbers, and experts have been predicting a peak in the daily cases by February.

The Chief Minister announced that cinemas, spas, and gyms, which were already operating at 50% capacity, would now be completely closed. The step has been taken since the rate of positivity has been more than.5% since the last two days. The announcement comes as a big blow to not only the filmmakers but also theatre owners, distributors, and employees. Notably, things were almost revived with Sooryavanshi, Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Pushpa, getting people back to the theatres despite a 50% capacity rule.

Now that these curbs have been announced, there will be a major impact on films like 83, which has recently been released, and the pan-India film RRR, which is slated for release on January 7.
