Kriti Sanon starrer Mimi has received great reviews from the audiences, however, its release hasn’t been as smooth as it should have been. On July 26, Maddock Films and Jio Films, along with Netflix, woke up to a shock when they heard of the movie being leaked online, almost four days before its release. Although, they started working immediately to remove the links from the Internet, yet close to half a million people had already watched the movie on pirated websites, and thereby it no longer remained an exclusive Netflix offering. As per a source, the streaming giant has not taken this incident lightly and has decided to renegotiate the deal with the producers, who will now be paid slightly less as compared to the previously zeroed upon figure. The pirated version has lead to a reduced number of impressions on Netflix, and which is why they had to take this step. The source added that once the leak was determined, tempers flew thick and fast between the producers, and finally it was decided to release the film on that day itself. A trade expert says that many movies were released on OTT since last year, but none of them ever leaked. He further hopes that the producers and Netflix investigate the matter thoroughly and catch the culprit so that this doesn’t happen again.
