Gangubai Kathiawadi, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period drama, has eventually got another release date. The film, which was scheduled to be released on January 6, was postponed because of the pandemic’s third wave and will now hit the theatres on February 25. The production house has confirmed the same on their official social media handle.
The film is based on one of the chapters from Hussain Zaidi’s book called Mafia Queens of Mumbai. Gangubai has seen multiple shifts in its scheduled release ever since it was wrapped up. The film’s original release date was September 11, last year, but due to delays caused by the pandemic’s second wave, the makers announced that it would be released in January 2022. Co-producer Jayantilal Gada specifically stated a few months ago that his films Gangubai Kathiawadi, Attack, and RRR are not OTT films and will be released in theaters.Besides this Sanjay Leela Bhansali flick, Alia will also be seen in SS Rajamouli’s RRR, which has two release dates blocked.
As per a statement released by its makers, if the pandemic scenario shows signs of improvement and the theatres operate at full capacity, the film will be released on March 18 or else be postponed to April 28.
