It has been a wait of 28 years for Jane Campion as she gets her career’s second best director nomination for the Netflix film, The Power of the Dog. While doing so, she has scripted history too, as she now becomes the first woman ever to boast two career nominations in the same category. She will be up against a formidable lineup this time with Steven Spielberg for West Side Story, Paul Thomas Anderson’s Licorice Pizza, Kenneth Branagh’s Belfast, and Ryusuke Hamaguchi for Drive My Car. As per an entertainment portal, only seven women have been nominated in the history of the Oscars in the best director category, of which only Kathryn Bigelow for The Hurt Locker and Chloe Zhao for Nomadland have come out as winners.
