Although Ranveer Singh’s 83 is off to a good start at the box office, the film is now in trouble because small theatres have replaced it with Spider-Man: No Way Home and Pushpa: The Rise. As per a trade expert, around 10%-15% of the movie shows have been discontinued because the response to the film over the weekend wasn’t encouraging, as in some centres it did 1/4th of the business of Pushpa: The Rise. According to a Pushpa’s distributor in Bihar, four theatres replaced 83 with Pushpa: The Rise, and one of them decided to make the change on Friday itself.
Taran Adarsh, a well-respected trade analyst, confirms that he isn’t aware of the reduction in shows but says that it is normal practice for multiplexes to reduce the number of shows of a particular movie and replace it with another that is doing well. As per him, 83 comes with a heavy price tag and its numbers as of now have been disappointing.
After Sooryavanshi, Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Pushpa: The Rise, one would have expected the much-hyped 83 to do well, but the numbers aren’t too encouraging.
