Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus, Gangubai Kathiawadi, will have its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2022 which is regarded as one of the world’s largest public film festivals and is an indispensable forum for the world film community.
The festival is scheduled to be held between February 10 and 20 next year. The organizers of the festival announced that Gangubai Kathiawadi would be the sole Indian film this year and one of the four films confirmed for the special gala segment. As per an official statement on Berlinale’s website, the films that are selected in Berlinale Special pay tribute to exceptional human beings.
Carlo Chatrian, Artistic Director at Berlinale says that cinema continues to be a tool to connect people. He adds that amongst the 2022 selection, are the films that are shot during the pandemic, and it is with this first batch of films that they are wanting to highlight the power of cinema.
