The director of films like Dallas Buyers Club and television projects such as “Big Little Lies,” Jean-Marc Vallee, has passed away at the age of 58. The cause of his death is unknown. According to Variety, his production partner, Nathan Ross, in a statement, said that the late director stood for creativity and always wanted to try out things differently.

He added that Jean-Marc was indeed a lovable and generous guy. People who worked with him could see the talent that he had and the vision that he possessed. To Nathan, Jean-Marc was a friend, a creative partner, and an older brother. He stressed the fact that the Maestro will be dearly missed, but his impeccable style and out-of-the-box work will continue to live on. He won an Oscar nomination for best editing for Dallas Buyers Club. This was the same movie for which Jared Leto and Matthew McConaughey won Oscars.

The next year, he directed “Wild,” which starred Reese Witherspoon. Jean-Marc Vallee continued to work with Reese Witherspoon in Big Little Lies, for which he won an Emmy. As per a statement released by HBO, Jean-Marc Vallee was a phenomenal talent and a dedicated filmmaker who gave every scene an emotional truth. HBO’s statement further said the director was a very caring man and we are all shocked by his sudden demise and that their hearts go out to his two sons, Alex and Emile, as well as his extended family and producing partner, Nathan Ross.
