The talented Adil Hussain will headline the film, Riding on the Moon Boat, which is one of the projects introduced at the Asian Project Market of Busan International Films Festival. The film will be helmed by Triparna Banerjee and will be her first directorial. It is set in the backdrop of rural India and is about a girl who struggles to survive through a drought and goes through immense hardship, and discrimination because her father has been shunned by the majority of villagers for engaging in a blasphemous act. The film is based on a novel written by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay named, Mahesh. In an interview, Banerjee explained that through this project what she is going to explore is discrimination and human identity. She adds that all humans are the same but are constantly engaged in isolating one another based on religion, color, nationality, race, gender, etc. Riding on the Moon will be produced by White Owl Films and Kyoko Dan, who is known to be working as a curator and distributor for Asian Cinema, particularly specializing in South and West Asian films.
