Two Indian films are going to vie for some attention at this year’s prestigious 66th Cannes Film Festival starting from May 15 to May 26, 2013.
While ‘Bombay Talkies’, an amalgamation of four short stories that covers the journey of Indian Cinema over the last 100 years will premiere at the prestigious film festival this year under the Gala Screening (Tribute To India), another feature directed by Indian Amit Kumar and co-produced by Anurag Kashyap’s production house AKFPL and DAR Motion Pictures in association with Yaffle Films (UK) will be screened during the midnight screening in the Out of Competition section.
‘Bombay Talkies’ is a tribute to the 100 glorious of Indian Cinema and the four segments of the film has each been directed by Karan Johar, Dibakar Banerjee, Zoya Akhtar and Anurag Kashyap.
It’s a double whammy for Anurag Kashyap who’s one of the directors of ‘Bombay Talkies’ as well as one of the producers of ‘Monsoon Shoutout’.

Set against the monsoon-lashed gritty urban landscape of Mumbai, Monsoon Shootout is an existential thriller that explores the impact of our choices on the lives of others and us. Guru, a rookie cop, has Shiva, a suspected gangster, in his line of fire. Guru has a moment of reckoning. Should he shoot a man whose guilt he is uncertain of? The film presents three scenarios, all departing from the decision that Guru makes. Each decision takes Guru on a journey that pits him against a system that demands a compromise on his morals. Finally, however, every compromise has its price.
‘Bombay Talkies’ has Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif, Rani Mukherjee, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Randeep Hooda among others in stellar roles.
Karan Johar directs Rani Mukherji, Randeep Hooda and Saqib Saleem in his episode and its deals with their emotional relationships and the strain that comes in the way.
Zoya directs Katrina Kaif along with a couple of children one of whom wants to become a film star.
While Anurag Kashyap’s story deals with a young man who travels all the way from UP to Mumbai to fulfill his dream of meeting Amitabh Bachchan at his bungalow Prateeksha – a meeting that could change his life forever. Amitabh plays himself in this story.
Dibakar Banerjee directs Nawazuddin as a failed actor who feels that he has failed in life miserably. This film is slated to release on May 2013.
