As the second Coronavirus wave has got the country under its clutches, especially the state of Maharashtra, which accounts for the majority of cases, the state government has decided to shut cinema halls till the end of the month. Movies like Chehre and Bunty Aur Babli 2 have already deferred their date of release, and so has the much-anticipated Akshay Kumar starrer Sooryvanshi.

The movie was supposed to hit the theatres on April 30, the date till which the current lockdown on cinema halls has been imposed. As per a source, with the state under the severe grip of the pandemic, there is no surety that cinema halls will open on April 30, and hence it will not be a bright idea to stay put with the release.

A movie as huge as Sooryavanshi is expected to resurrect the film industry’s business, but with the present state of affairs, it is indeed a big blow to all the distributors, exhibitors, and of course, fans. Interestingly, it is the fifth time that this movie’s release stands postponed. It was initially going to hit the theatres on March 24 last year, but due to the first nationwide lockdown, it was postponed to Diwali.

The situation during Diwali did not seem conducive, and hence in March this year, it was decided to release it on April 02 and then April 30. Earlier on Saturday, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Uddhav Thakre, had virtually met stakeholders from different sectors to discuss the precarious situation and seek cooperation.

Rohit Shetty, too was present during the meeting and according to a source, was appreciated by the Chief Minister to have taken the bold and difficult decision of postponing Sooryvanshi, yet again.
