As the Maharashtra Government has decided to shut cinema halls, theatres and multiplexes until further notice because of the surge in coronavirus cases, it has put the future of many movies in jeopardy.
While big movies like Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai, Satyamev Jayate 2, and Thalaivi were on the verge of getting released, the sudden spike in cases has put the producers in a catch 22 like situation. It was a big sigh of relief for distributors, cinema and multiplex owners as well as fans a fortnight back when the release dates of these big movies were confirmed. However, with the turbulent times returning, the best bet would be not to go ahead with the releases as it will hit the expected high collections these movies were bound to give.
Maharashtra has always remained a cash cow when it comes to movie collections, and with the state getting hit, it shouldn’t come as a surprise when producers start making announcements on push back of release dates from this week. The scenario is grave, and every day we have been hearing someone from the film industry contracting the virus.
