After so much hard work, which he did throughout all the phases of the lockdown, Sonu Sood has landed himself in trouble. As per the latest reports coming in, the actor has evaded taxes of more than Rs. 20 crores. After three days of thorough investigation at his residence and various offices, the Income Tax Department issued a statement today which has confirmed the tax evasion by the actor worth this whopping sum. The actor, a few days back, had declared a tie-up with Delhi Chief Minister’sm Aam Aadmi Government as well. The tax department has also gone on to say that the actor’s non-profit organization had got a grant of Rs.2.1 crores as well, which he received from overseas donors through a crowdfunding platform that is in violation of law under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act. The statement by the tax authority, which was released yesterday, said that during the search of the actors and his associate’s premises, many incriminating pieces of evidence cropped up of tax evasion. There has been a lot of unaccounted income, which is in the form of bogus unsecured loans from various bogus entities. According to the statements against Sood, his non-profit Sood Charity Foundation, which was set up in July 2020, during the first wave of the pandemic, raked up over Rs. 18 crores as on April this year, from which only Rs. 1.90 crores have been spent, and the rest is lying idle in the bank. Not only that, a recent deal between Sonu and a Lucknow-based real estate company is also under the scanner. Sonu Sood entered into a joint venture real estate project where he invested substantial funds, which have resulted in unearthing the tax evasion and irregularities in his accounts. The income tax raids on Sonu Sood have invited criticism from the ruling Shiv Sena Government in Maharashtra and the Aam Aadmi Party. That said, the BJP has said that there is no link between Sood’s tie-up with AAP and the investigations that are currently on.
