With Maharashtra reopening the gates of theatres from October 22, it has been raining release dates of all projects, big and small, for a week now. Filmmakers have been blocking dates since last Sunday for their respective releases; after all, it has indeed been a long and patient wait for them. Today, Sanjay Lal Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi too has joined the bandwagon by announcing its date of release. This much anticipated Alia Bhatt starrer will hit the screens on January 6 next year. The trailer of the movie was launched way back in the early half of 2021 with anticipation of releasing the movie on July 30. However, things turned haywire for the filmmakers when the second wave of the pandemic struck the country, causing theatres to shut down and thereby delaying the releases of their films, with Gangubai Kathiawadi being one of them. Gangubai marks the first collaboration between Bhansali and Alia Bhatt. The shoot of the film was wrapped up in June this year, and with the announcement on release date confirmation today, it is finally ready to enthrall the audience, the way Sanjay Leela Bhansali movies are known for.
