“Jab tak is desh mein sanima hai tab tak log chutiya bante rahege.” An iconic line from the movie of a director who has gained global recognition for his hard hitting and dark films. What made Anurag Kashyap stand out was his grasp of the world of crime… whether the crime belonged to a village or a city or on a global platform. So good is his grasp on this genre of cinema, he was often labeled the Indian Francis Ford Copolla.
Anurag Kashyap does things his own way and no wonder a couple of his films including his hard hitting debut film Paanch never saw the light of the day due to his difference with the censor board.
Over the years, he went on to make number of feature films some of which were huge blockbusters and in each of these films, crime was a central plot. But no two plots were alike.
But things are going to change. For once, Anurag Kashyap is venturing into unfamiliar territories with Manmarziyaan that has Abhishek Bachchan, Taapsee Panuu and Vicky Kaushal in the lead. Manmarziyaan is out-an-out a romantic film as we can see from its trailer and despite being a totally different genre, Anurag seems to have done a splendid job with it.
Now only time will time how good a job that is and if Anurag Kashyap is going to continue to make more romantic films in the future or get back to what he is a master at – crime.
