Delhi High  Court Dismisses Plea Filed By SSR’s Father

The Delhi High Court has declined to stay the release of Nyay: The Justice scheduled to release today. The movie is based on the life of Sushant Singh Rajput, who passed away in June last year. The petition to stay the release of the movie was filed by the late actor’s father, who claimed it was shot without the family’s consent and launched in an orchestrated manner by people who are in close proximity to the ones who are accused of the actor’s death. The petition was dismissed by a bench led by Justice Sanjeev Narula. The order has also asked the producers to maintain accounts. In April, the late actor’s father Krishna Singh had filed a petition to restrain anyone from using his son’s name. At that time the court had asked all the producers intending to make a movie or in the process of making it to respond to the petition filed by Singh. Sushant’s case is currently investigated by CBI, ED, and NCB. After his sudden demise, many filmmakers had announced movies concerning his life. In his plea, Rajput’s father had mentioned names of the movies Nyay: The Justice, Suicide or Murder: A Star Was Lost, Shashank, and another crowd-funded film. While Nyay: The Justice is scheduled to release today, the next two are currently under production. The plea claimed that if a movie, web series, book, or any other content of similar nature is allowed to be published or broadcasted, it will affect the right of the victim. The Delhi High Court, in its order, said that the artistic freedom to create fictional work cannot be controlled. The artist’s inspiration can come from anywhere, and the court cannot filter real-life events. The court further said that it found merits in the defendants’ submissions that details of Sushant’s death received widespread news coverage in all media and are available in the public domain.
