Shahid Kapoor Reduces His Fee For Jersey For A Theatrical Release Only

The threat of COVID-19, which looms over again, has compelled the makers of Jersey starring Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur to push its release dates further from December 31. It is the fourth time that the release of the film has been postponed. Adding to the concern, no revised date has been revealed as yet.

Shahid, who plays the lead in the film, took to his Twitter to share the news of the postponement of Jersey. As per a report, the Jersey team was already in a huddle as they had got a prior intimation that Delhi theatres may shut down soon. After several rounds of discussions, they decided to push the release date. The makers were even having a discussion with Netflix for a direct to digital premiere on December 31, for which the OTT giant had agreed to pay a premium.

The team was almost sure to release the film on Netflix, but that is when Shahid Kapoor stepped in and convinced them that Jersey deserved a theatrical showcase. When the makers pointed out the cost involved, the actor reportedly reduced his remuneration to safeguard the film from an OTT medium. Shahid, who charged Rs. 31 crores for Jersey, has said that he will reduce his acting fee. So if the budget exceeds Rs. 5 crores, Shahid will reduce his remuneration by Rs. 5 crores. According to sources, Jersey is a special film for Shahid, who is confident that the audience will love what they have made.
