Due to  a surge in Omicron cases in the United States, as well as controversies in the previous edition, the Golden Globes will not be streamed live this year and will be held privately. This move comes after several awards and festivals have been cancelled internationally due to the current situation.

According to the Golden Globes’ official Twitter handle, this year’s event is going to be held privately and will not be streamed live. Updates on the winners will be provided on the award’s social media handles. Organized by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the Golden Globes are rated as one of the most prestigious awards in Hollywood. The awards, however, have had their share of controversies as well.

NBC dropped coverage of the event last year after the HFPA was chastised for failing to demonstrate racial diversity among its members. Critics further objected to the fact that a close relationship with movie studios would have played a major role in deciding nominations and winners.
