The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has listed 276 films that would be eligible for the 94th Oscars this year. From the list, it will be Jai Bhim starring Suriya, which will be India’s entry to the academy.
This courtroom drama has been inspired by a real-life incident that took place in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu in the 1990s. The story is about a tribal member who was falsely accused of theft, tortured in a cell, and subsequently lost his life. The character of Suriya is based on Justice K Chandru, who fought for the deceased man’s justice.
The voting for the nominations will start on January 27 and go on until February 1, after which, on February 8, the final Oscar nominations will be revealed. As per the present status, this year’s Oscars will be aired live on ABC on March 27 from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
