Kangana Ranaut To Direct Emergency, Her Second Film After Manikarnika

Early in 2021, Kangana Ranaut announced that she will be playing the role of former Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi, in one of her upcoming projects. The National-Award-winning actress has already begun her preparation for the film with body and face scans to transform into the character. It has now been revealed that not only will she essay the lead role in the movie, but will also direct it. The film will be titled Emergency, and it will mark Ranaut’s second directorial venture after Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi. Kangana took to the social media platform Koo to announce her move. The actress wrote that she is pleased to wear the director’s hat again, and with more than a year-long working on Emergency, she has realized that nobody else can direct it better than herself. Ritesh Shah, who already has Pink, Kahaani, Kahaani 2 to his credit, will be writing this project too. He has also written Kangana Ranaut’s upcoming flick Dhaakad. In a statement made earlier by Kangana, she had confirmed that the film wasn’t a biopic of Indira Gandhi but a political drama that will help her generation understand the socio-political fabric of current India. This period film will be made on a huge scale with actors portraying the role of Sanjay & Rajeev Gandhi, Morarji Desai, Lal Bahadur Shastri, and many more prominent personalities.
