As the glittering star studded 66th Cannes Film Festival came close to an end on Sunday, French film Blue is the Warmest Color: The Life of Adele took home the most coveted award offered by Cannes – the Palme d’Or.
The film premiere at the 66th Cannes and wowed the audience and the jury members with its moving lesbian love story that bordered both on tenderness and sensuality.
The film directed by Kechiche, is a story about a young teenage girl who falls in love with an older woman. The Palme d’Or award came just days after the French government legalized same sex marriage that had its repercussions as well.
Surprisingly, the jury head, noted Hollywood Director Steven Spielberg handed over the award not just to the director Abdellatif Kechiche but the film’s two leading stars as well – Adele Exarchopoulos and Lea Seydoux.
The Life of Adele was one of the 20 films shortlisted for the Palme d’Or this year.
Inside Llewyn Davis by the Coen Brothers took home the second best award – the Grand Prix.
