In a first of its kind, prominent Filmmakers from the South have joined hands to form a big production house. Rain On Films is a production company founded by Mani Ratnam, AR Murugadoss, Mysskin, Lingusamy, Vetrimaaran, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Lokesh Kanagaraj, and many others. The production house will operate as a corporation that will fund feature films, web series, anthologies, etc., for major Indian OTT platforms. Although there is no formal statement that has come from the production house as yet, it is expected to open in September. As per what has been said, Rain On Films is the brainchild of Mani Ratnam, who just bankrolled Netflix’s recent anthology Navarasa. He has already described OTT platforms as immensely liberating as they allow him to present stories in varied ways. Rumors are pretty rife of Lokesh Kanagaraj directing the first project under this banner.
