Shabaash Mithu is one of the highly anticipated movies which is scheduled to release in 2022. Based on the life of the captain of the Indian Women’s Cricket team, Mithali Raj, the film will now be directed by Srijit Mukherji. It was earlier to be helmed by Rahul Dholakia. Speaking on the change of guard, Ajit Andhare, COO, Viacom 18 Studios, confirmed that the COVID disruptions have caused the rescheduling of the shoot, and which is why Rahul is moving from Shabaash Mithu. According to him, it is unfortunate that after sharing and nurturing his dream for a long time, Rahul Dholakia will no longer be a part of it. Andhare said that Rahul’s contribution to the movie shall remain and also thanked him for it. He added that Srijit Mukherji will now take over the reins of Shabaash Mithu. Notably, Srijit has worked with Viacom for the upcoming web series Ray which will soon be released on Netflix. He is a multiple National Award-winning director who is known for directing masterpieces. Speaking on this development, Srijit said that being a Cricket buff as well as a researcher, Mithali’s story has always been an inspiration to him. Although Dholakia couldn’t continue with the project, he is of an opinion that there are some movies you know you have to do, and Shabaash Mithu was one of them. He went on to add that COVID-19 messed everyone’s schedule, and his was no different, and unfortunately, he will not be able to direct this fabulous script. The movie is the tale of India’s one of the greatest woman cricketers, Mithali Raj, and would portray highs and lows, setbacks, and significant moments of her life. Taapsee Pannu will be essaying the role of the ace cricketer in the movie.
