If ever there was a true architect of crafting epic movies, it would be none other than Manmohan Desai. A creative genius, he is best known to give us some landmark movies such as Amar Akbar Anthony, Parvarish, Coolie, Naseeb and many more. Desai was known to make intelligent cinema and worked with some of the most prolific stars of the 60s, 70s, and 80s. The fact remains that he turned actors into superstars. His first decade in the film industry was good as he gave out some massy movies, but his golden era came during the second decade, i.e. during the 70s when he started working with Amitabh Bachchan. Their first film together was Parvarish that was shot alongside Amar Akbar Anthony.
Perhaps Manmohan Desai’s biggest success of all was this multi-starrer movie, which remains a cult classic to this day. The duo went on to collaborate in some of their careers greatest work together. Desai also worked multiple times with Rishi Kapoor, Shatrughan Sinha, Shammi Kapoor, and Randhir Kapoor amongst others. He is recalled as one of the most down to earth person’s who chose to live in a cramped apartment in Mumbai despite making enough money to buy many houses. Desai fell to his death from his building in 1994. It was inconclusive whether the incident was an accident or suicide. His memories, however, remain etched into our lives forever.
