Netflix and Karan Johar have called off their exclusive content deal, which was signed in September 2019, exactly two years ago. As per the deal, Karan’s Dharmatic Entertainment was supposed to give out all its fiction and non-fiction content to the streaming giant. As per a source, now that the deal has been called off, Dharmatic can work with other streaming services as well. However, there are also reports that both will continue working together as there are multiple projects which have already commenced and shall be delivered between 12-18 months. There are certain returning seasons as well, although it is still unclear if the two shall work on them or not. The digital arm of Dharma Productions is currently working on a series called Finding Anamika and the next season of Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives. As per a source, too much interference from the California-based streaming giant could have been the reason for Dharma’s exit from the partnership. The source further adds that Netflix wants everything in a certain way which at times leads to frustration and confusion as well. This deal was Netflix’s biggest ever in India as it had an exclusivity clause attached to it.
