Rakul Preet Singh

This year, we heard of Rakul Preet Singh doing a content-oriented, women-centric film produced by Ronnie Screwvala. It was confirmed that the movie titled Chhatriwali would be a social comedy. While the movie never had an official announcement, it has come to light that the makers have decided to shut the project. One of the well-placed sources says the reason Ronnie Screwvala decided to shelve it was due to the failure of Aparshakti Khurana’s recently released film, Helmet, which was a pretty similar subject. The film was a quirky comedy that revolved around the use of contraceptives and explored the mindset of people around the topic. It, however, failed to create a buzz and which became a huge worry for the makers of Rakul Preet Singh’s film that essentially had the same message. Chhatriwali, was initially offered to Sara Ali Khan, who outrightly rejected it. Thereafter, it was Ananya Pandey who was approached, but her team thought the concept and the role were too bold for her, and that’s when Rakul Preet got roped in. Tejas Deoskar, director of Madhuri Dixit Nene’s 2017 debut Marathi film, Bucket List, was supposed to helm the project. Meanwhile, we hear that Raaj Shaandilyaa is also working on a similar concept named Janhit Mein Jaari, which has NushrrattBharuccha in the lead.
