In the current scenario, it is unlikely that a movie will see a theatre release. Even if we get relief from a lockdown, theatres will be the last to open. Considering all this, production houses have taken the path of an exclusive digital and satellite release for their projects. Bhoot Police, which has big names in it, like Saif Ali Khan, Arjun Kapoor, Jacqueline Fernandez, and Yami Gautam, is going ahead with a satellite and digital route. Star Network has acquired the rights of the movie for 60-65 crores as compared to a budget of 40 crores. The producer, Ramesh Taurani, has made a profit of 20-25 crores through this deal. He is likely to pocket more with music and other rights too. If we look at the break-up, the digital rights of Disney+Hotstar will fetch Bhoot Police a sum to the tune of 45 crores while the satellite rights to Star Network will hover around 15-20 crores. Besides Bhoot Police, Disney+Hotstar has also acquired the rights of Priyadarshan’s Hungama 2, which stars Paresh Rawal, Shilpa Shetty, and Meezaan Jaffrey.
