It was recently reported about Aditya Chopra turning down a deal worth 100s of crores to sell his entire slate of films to an OTT giant for an exclusive premiere. As per a trade source, Chopra has immense faith in the big screen medium and is ready to follow the erstwhile 8-week window between a theatrical and OTT release.
That said, when a statement was put out by national chains about them being fine with squeezing the window to four weeks, Yash Raj signed a deal with Amazon Prime Video, keeping that in mind. This contract has fetched Aditya Chopra a premium amount of over and above the pre-existing eight-week deal amount. Yash Raj’s upcoming films, such as Bunty Aur Babli 2, Jayeshbhai Jordaar, Prithviraj, and Shamshera, all will be premiered on Amazon Prime Video, four weeks after their theatrical showcase.
That said, Aditya Chopra has reserved his biggest films of the lot, Tiger 3 and Pathan, for an eight-week window as he feels that these movies deserve an exclusive theatrical space of a long time as they are meant for big-screen entertainment. The first film to release from the YRF-50 slate will be Bunty Aur Babli 2. The movie will hit the screens on November 19.
