Not Ayushmann Khurrana, Abhishek Kapoor’s first choice was Sushant Singh Rajput for Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui. That said, things obviously did not materialize due to the untimely demise of the actor. It was well known in the industry circles that Abhishek Kapoor was very close to the late actor.
He was, in fact, the first to give Sushant a break in Bollywood with Kai Po Che. Their last film together was Kedarnath which also did exceedingly well at the box office. Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui was released in theatres this Friday, and it came as surprise to Sushant Singh Rajput’s fans as in the opening disclaimer, Kapoor paid a tribute to his late friend.
The slate before starting the movie had Sushant’s picture and a caption that read, in loving memory of the actor with his birth and death date, along with another caption, Stay Interstellar. Notably, Kedarnath recently completed three years, and even then Abhishek Kapoor, who was called Gattu by Sushant, penned down an emotional note. He thanked the entire cast and crew of Kedarnath and referred to Sushant as an extraordinary soul who would remain etched in the legacy of the film. Abhishek added that he could still feel Mansoor ( Sushant’s character in the movie) looking back at him with his characteristic smile reflecting all the innocence and beauty there is.
