Filmmaker Aditya Chopra has decided to donate the entire budget of the YRF50 celebration for COVID relief in India. Chopra was initially planning a grand celebration to commemorate the 50 years of Yash Raj Films. India is in the midst of the devastating second wave of the pandemic, with lakhs of COVID-19 cases being reported consistently every day. Having said that, citizens from all walks of life are doing their bit to fight against the virus.
Yash Raj Films completed 50 years in 2020, and Aditya Chopra and the team had elaborate plans to celebrate the feat not only in India but globally. But with the second wave causing grief across the country, the filmmaker has decided to put to use the budget for the 50 year-celebration in a better way.
The production house has also started an initiative to provide cooked meals from Yash Raj Studios kitchen to several thousands of frontline workers in Goregaon and also feed people in quarantine centers across Andheri. It has been consciously decided that even in the event of the situation getting better and the industry functioning back to the way it should, Yash Raj Films will be spending every penny allocated for YRF50 in COVID relief.
Additionally, Yash Raj Films will also be transferring Rs. 5000 to women and senior citizens in the industry and also distribute ration kits to workers having a family of 4 for a month through NGO partner Youth Feed India.
