It is official!! Friends reunion is happening. After much delay and speculation, HBO Max has officially announced that the much-awaited reunion special will premiere on the streaming giant on May 27. The entire cast, Mathew Perry, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc, Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, and Courtney Cox, recently united to film this special. Friends: The Reunion was originally supposed to have been filmed almost a year back but got delayed due to the pandemic. The unscripted, one-off special was filmed early this year in Los Angeles. HBO Max has confirmed that more than 15 celebrity guests including, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, and K-Pop band BTS, would be a part of the show, with the former cast members Tom Selleck (Richard) and Maggie Wheeler (Janice) also joining in. The reunion, although planned for last year, is still going to be a big moment for HBO Max. The Wall Street Journal in 2019 had reported that the streaming giant is paying close to $425 million for the reruns of the series for the next five years. Having a series like Friends and then also getting the exclusive reunion can prove to be enormously important to HBO Max’s subscriber growth and also its bottom line.
