Amitabh Bachchan has terminated his Kamala Pasand Pan Masala contract. He said that he wasn’t aware that it falls under the gamut of surrogate advertising. His termination of the contract comes after he was requested by the national anti-tobacco organization to step down from the ad campaign. Significantly, the fans of the legend too had criticized this move of him endorsing a pan masala brand. An official statement has also been released regarding his disassociation from Kamala Pasand.

The statement said that a few days after the first commercial of the pan masala brand was aired, Mr. Bachchan contacted the brand and stepped out of his endorsement contract. Upon being questioned about the sudden move, it is told in the statement itself that when the actor signed the advertisement contract, he wasn’t aware that it fell under the umbrella of surrogate advertising. He has returned the money received for the promotion. In a letter sent to Big B from National Organization For Tobacco Eradication a few days back, they had cited that since he is the brand ambassador for the Government’s Pulse Polio campaign, he must step down from the pan masala campaign immediately. Last month on his social media platform, even a fan had asked him about why he chose to endorse the brand to which the actor had commented that if some people are getting benefits from the industry, one should not think why is he getting associated.
