Aurangzeb like the title suggests is not a historical film but a modern day crime film.

Produced by Yash Raj Films, the film is written / directed by Atul Sabharwal who had earlier penned such films like My Wife’s Murder, Phir Milenge and Darna Mana Hai.

Starring Arjun Kapoor in a double role along with Prithiviraj, Swara Bhaskar, Saasha Agha, Jackie Shroff, Rishi Kapoor, Amrita Singh and Sikander Kher in pivotal roles, the film is about two families – one a mafia and other comprising of police officers. Jackie Shroff as Yashvardhan is the head of a family that is into real estate work but actually leads a life of crime. His close confidante Ajay (Arjun Kapoor) is the man who finishes the job for him. The police team led by Rishi Kapoor secretly capture Ajay and force him to give out all of Yashvardhan’s illegal activities. Meanwhile his lookalike Vishal (Arjun Kapoor) is sent by the police to infiltrate Yashvardhan’s gang as Ajay and become an informer for the police.

While the trailer is a reminiscent of the crime films of the 80s of gangster families versus upright policemen with double roles put it, the film is set in today’s times and the actors seem to do justice to their respective roles. It gives the impression of a crime drama and is hard hitting from frame one as one expects from a crime film.

And as the film’s catch line goes, “To bring down a criminal, the law will have to think like a criminal.”

The film is slated to hit the screens on 17th May 2013.
