Akshay Kumar’s Bell Bottom was released across 1600 screens on Friday in India despite COVID-19 restrictions. The overall revenue of the movie is bound to be affected, however, the film has paved the way for others to follow. The trade circles have applauded Akshay Kumar and producer Vashu Bhagnani for this massive and brave step of releasing the movie solely across theatres without any OTT presence. One of the sources informs that the makers of Bell Bottom have an option to release it on OTT four weeks after its theatrical showcase. Amazon Prime Video has already acquired the digital rights of Bell Bottom, and it is just a matter of days before it goes for an OTT release. Vashu Bhagnani wanted to premiere the film two weeks after its theatrical release, but since the national multiplex chain negotiated the theatrical release, the OTT release was settled to four weeks. As per the agreement which is in place, the film can be released on Amazon Prime Video after September 15 without any restrictions. That said, no final release date is finalized by the producers yet, however, the industry buzz is that the film will go ahead with a digital premiere in the last week of September.
