Akshay Kumar’s Bell Bottom which was amongst the first movie to start after the initial wave of the pandemic, is all set to release on July 27 across theatres. Interestingly, it is a mid-week release and has a lot to do with Akshay’s lucky number, 09. The film will have a global screening, and it will be the superstar’s first release in theatres after a year and a half. As per a trade source, there is another significant development taking place around the movie, and that is its premiere on the OTT platform Amazon Prime Video. Bell Bottom may release digitally on Independence Day weekend, which is just 14 days after its theatrical premiere. The makers are currently toying with this idea, and if the finer nuances of the contract and the paperwork between the producers and Amazon Prime Video reach a mutual understanding, we might look forward to an entertaining Independence Day weekend. The entire industry awaits its release now and will keep a close eye on how the exhibitors react to a digital premiere just after 14 days of a theatrical release. It might as well prove to be a game-changer if all goes well and help pave the path for other movies too.
