Hockey found its prominence after Chak De India and Soorma, a biopic on Sandeep Singh. Boxing had Mary Kom. Cricket after M. S. Dhoni – The Untold Story. Athletics after Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. Now its the turn of football to find its fame and glory with a biopic on India’s ex-football captain and a revered player Bhaichung Bhutia.

Anand Kumar who earlier directed the Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi starrer Zila Ghaziabad has announced a biopic on Bhutia.

Bhaichung Bhutia, a Padma Shri awardee, hails from a small town of Sikkim and went on to play football for 16 years and has also captained India in international tournaments.

Bhaichung said on the biopic, “I am honoured that people feel that my journey is worth capturing for the big screen. I am certain that Anand will do justice to my story. I hail from a small town in Sikkim, but playing football for India wasn’t my only dream. I always wanted to own a professional football club and I realised that dream with United Sikkim.”

It needs to be seen who will play the diminutive but extremely talented player on the big screen.
