Almost a couple of months back, it was reported that Amitabh Bachchan had terminated his contract with Pan Masala brand Kamala Pasand. The reason behind the contract termination was that the legend wasn’t aware that it would fall under surrogate advertising.
The termination came by after he was requested to pull his association back from the brand by the National Anti-tobacco organisation. But despite the termination of the contract, and the subsequent request to withdraw the ads, Kamala Pasand promotions are all over the advertising space during the prime time slots and which is why the actor has sent a legal notice to the Pan Masala brand to withdraw the ads featuring him from immediate effect.
Earlier, an official statement was also put out which said that a few days after the commercial was aired for the first time, Mr Bachchan had approached the brand and stepped out of the association. It was said that while getting on board for the brand’s communication, he wasn’t in-know that it would fall under the surrogate advertising gamut. Upon learning the same, Mr Bachchan terminated the contract, wrote a letter of termination to the brand and returned the money received for the promotion.
