In a shocking revelation, Nawazuddin Siddiqui has decided to bid farewell to digital platforms. As per him, the OTT landscape has become a dumping ground for shows that have lost their sheen. He adds that either there are shows which don’t deserve to be seen, or there are sequels to shows which do not have much to talk about. The talented actor is of an opinion that when he did Sacred Games for Netflix, there was a buzz and a challenge around the digital medium, and new talent was given that window to prove, but now that freshness, according to him, has gone. It is now more of a racket of big production houses and the so-called stars of OTT platforms. One can today find major production houses striking lucrative deals for unlimited content, and which is where he feels the quantity has killed quality. He rightly says that when he can’t bear to watch these shows, how can he even think of acting in them. He feels that there is a growth of parallel star systems on the OTT platforms, just like what used to be the case on the big screen, which eventually killed it. Actors are claiming to be stars of OTT, minting big money and throwing tantrums like the A-listers of Bollywood. However, Nawaz feels that content is the king today, and it should be given its due.
