As the theatres started opening up, it was assumed that the producers wouldn’t think much about where to release their respective projects. However, things haven’t been as hunky-dory for the multiplexes and single-screen theatres as they may look because many movies are still preferring the OTT path. At least for now, the producers are sceptical of the success of the movie, if released on the big screen. The recent huge film going the OTT way is Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Toofan which has opted to release on Amazon Prime Video. As per the industry source, the movie was initially planned to release in September of 2020 but had to be put on hold indefinitely due to the lockdown. It did come as a surprise when the co-producers Excel Entertainment & ROMP Pictures as well as the director favoured OTT above theatres. The source further adds that as the theatres are just opening up, it will be a while before they run at full capacity. Due to this, the movie getting its worth is difficult, however, an OTT release assures a certain sum that covers the initial expense. Toofan stars Farhan Akhtar playing the role of a boxer. It will be his second sports-based film with Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra after Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.
