Reliance Entertainment Withdraws Sooryavanshi From All Carnival Cinema Properties Citing Non-Payment of Dues

The details of the deadlock between the producers and the theatre owners, which ended on the eve of the movie’s release, are out. It was indeed a historic moment as the first time the booking window of any movie opened less than 12 hours before the first show began.

Although Reliance, the maker of Sooryavanshi, was adamant on a revenue sharing of 60% for the first week, national multiplex chain owners were not willing to shell out more than 52.5%, which is a norm. Finally, director Rohit Shetty brought Reliance and the Multiplex Association on the same page, with all parties agreeing for a 55% figure in the inaugural release week. Rohit also tried to sort out the show sharing issues with Disney, whose movie Eternals, also released the same day, however, representatives from the studio weren’t available for the meeting.

As per a source, Rohit Shetty initially distanced himself from the revenue share issue till Wednesday, but since the stalemate did not end, he had to step in and was involved in all the decision making on the Diwali day. Rohit wanted to reach the audience in the best way possible pan India, and therefore letting go of the multiplex deal wouldn’t have been an option. The movie is released across 4200 screens across the country and is expected to set the box office on fire.
