The long wait for Rohit Shetty’s directorial Sooryavanshi starring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif is finally over. Before announcing the date of release, just to recap, the first trailer of the film hit the screens on March 2, 2020, with an intention to release the movie on March 25. But things were not meant to be that way, as days before the movie’s release, the entire country came to a standstill amidst a rising number of COVID-19 cases. Earlier this year, the makers once again zeroed upon April as the month of the release however, the second wave of the pandemic gripped the nation again, and subsequently, a lockdown was announced, forcing theatres to shut down as well. On Saturday, after months of theatre not being operational in Maharashtra, the state government announced that they will reopen from October 22, a week before Diwali. Before the theatre opening announcement, Rohit Shetty had met state CM, Uddhav Thackeray. After the official announcement, the filmmaker took to his Instagram to thank the Chief Minister and also confirmed that Sooryavanshi will be releasing on Diwali. Akshay Kumar also thanked the CM and shared a behind-the-scenes picture of himself, along with Rohit Shetty, Ajay Devgn, and Ranveer Singh. The movie belongs to the cop universe of Rohit Shetty and will also have characters from his previous movie Singham, played by Devgn, and Simmba, played by Ranveer. Both will feature in the film for a cameo just to pep it up a bit more. The opening of theatres in Maharashtra is a big relief for theatre owners, workers, and distributors who have waited patiently for this day to arrive. Not to forget, several filmmakers will now queue up to get a release date for their respective projects. Also, big studios like Yash Raj, already have a few completed projects lined up which they would want to showcase without any further delay.
