Varun Dhawan Declines Dhyaanchand Biopic

Several sports biopics have come to the fore in the last decade. Be it on Milkha Singh or M.S. Dhoni, there is something about these biopics, that if made well, draws the attention of viewers to no end. That said, there has been one biopic that has been in the headlines for quite some time now, and that’s on the legendary Hockey player, Dhyanchand. It was Karan Johar who had bought the rights to the biopic and wanted to make it with Shah Rukh Khan, but the project got entangled in the production delays and could never take off. Now, RSVP’s Ronnie Screwvala has bought its rights and is planning to give it a huge shape by 2022. Abhishek Chaubey will be at the helm of the project, and he along with Supratik Sen, will be writing the screenplay as well. Despite all the blocks fitting in, the project has once again found itself amidst delays. According to a source, RSVP had approached Varun Dhawan for the movie, who was convinced about the whole plot. The production house needed the dates almost immediately after the lockdown this year, but since Varun was already committed to several other movies, he could not accommodate this one as it would have required a lot of preparation time and then the shoot. Hence, as much as Varun would have wanted to be a part of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, he had to make way for someone else.
