Ranveer Singh’s 83 has been making a lot of buzz as its release date draws closer. This is one of the most eagerly anticipated movies of recent times, which gives out the narrative of India’s greatest sporting achievement way back in 1983.

As 83 releases this week, it has now come to light that how the makers acquired the story rights of the film. As per a source, producers of the film, Reliance Entertainment, paid a sum of Rs. 15 crores to the then winning team with Rs. 5 crores going to Kapil Dev himself. An industry insider confirms that before making the film on India’s biggest sporting glory of that time, it was pivotal to take the rights of the subject, as well as individual stories of the players on which the movie was based, especially when real-life incident as big as this was involved.

Keeping this in mind, Reliance Entertainment went ahead and paid Rs. 15 crores to the Indian Cricket players who were involved in the game at that time to get their go-ahead. The film, which will release in theatres worldwide on December 24, has been made on a budget of Rs. 125 crores.
