A couple of years back filmmaker Prashant Nair, who had earlier worked as a co-director with Zoya Akhtar, Reema Kagti, Alankrita Shrivastava, and Nitya Mehta on the globally acclaimed web series Made In Heaven, had announced that he will be soon making a series on the Uphaar Cinema tragedy that shook the nation in the ‘90s. It is now learned that Abhay Deol will be playing the lead in this project. The yet-to-be-titled show is based on Neelam & Shekhar Krishnamoorthy’s book Trial By Fire: The Tragic Tale of The Uphaar Fire Tragedy and will be produced by Endemol Shine India. A source who is close to the project has said that the show will be told from Krishnamoorthy’s viewpoint. The couple fought for their two children, who lost their lives in the fire. It is being told that the makers were looking for a mature lead, and who else could have suited in the frame better than Abhay Deol. The source adds that the makers are confident that Deol will fit into the role perfectly and blend well in the character. Abhay Deol will play the role of Shekhar Krishnamoorthy, the father of the children. The actor took time to study his role before giving it a nod. The pre-production of the project has already begun with redesigning the facade of Navrang Cinema, Andheri, and giving it a similar look as the Uphaar Theatre.
