It was earlier speculated that Akshay Kumar starrer Bell Bottom will take the digital path like Laxmii, a horror-comedy that was the actor’s first OTT release. The movie initially had an April 30 release plan but had to be postponed due to obvious reasons. With the second wave striking hard, many producers felt it was not feasible for them to hold their movies further, and hence the only option they were left with was going ahead with the digital release of their projects. Bell Bottom was one of the first movies to wrap up, post the initial wave of the pandemic last year. Interestingly, Producer Vashu Bhagnani has lucrative offers from various OTT platforms for the digital premiere of the movie. However, Bhagnani is keen to release Bell Bottom in theatres as he is looking to support and revive the exhibition sector. One of the sources adds that an official announcement of the theatrical release of Bell Bottom is likely to happen today, and the odds are that the makers might also announce the release date along with it. The movies’ satellite rights are with Sony, while the digital rights are taken by Amazon. This big-budget project is shot extensively in Scotland and is helmed by Ranjit M Tewari. It also stars Vaani Kapoor, Huma Qureshi, and Lara Dutta in important roles.
