Jersey, starring Shahid Kapoor and Mrinal Thakur, has been postponed amid rising fears of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus. The film was supposed to hit the theatres on December 31 but was caught in a catch-22 situation as the Delhi government ordered the closure of cinema halls, gyms, and spas to reduce the surge in COVID numbers.
The makers of Jersey even issued a statement regarding the development, stating that in view of the current circumstances that have cropped up and the new COVID guidelines that have been put in place, they have collectively decided to defer the theatrical release of their much-anticipated flick.The team feels that there will be more locations that follow Delhi’s curbs in the coming days, which is why this step has been taken.The new date of release hasn’t been decided yet.
The film is based on a Telegu hit by the same name. If released on December 31, Jersey would have been Shahid’s first film after the 2019 blockbuster Kabir Singh. His other upcoming releases include a web project by Family Man creators Raj and DK.
