It was excitement all around when Karan Johar had announced his next directorial in August 2018. Well, with a star cast like Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Anil Kapoor, Jhanvi Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, and Bhumi Pednekar, Takht got all the attention it deserved. But things have taken a complete U-turn for the movie as Karan has decided to shelve the project. According to sources, there are many reasons behind doing so, the foremost being the budget of the movie which was slated to be somewhere between 250-300 crores and with COVID-19 hitting hard, Karan did have to bear losses. As per reports, no other studio was backing up the film except Fox Star Studios because of their partnership with Dharma Productions, however, they were never on board for it. Another reason could be the fabric of the movie, which was based on the Mughal Era. Considering what had happened to Padmaavat, Karan could not risk taking up the movie, which already had huge money involved.
