The Immortal Ashwathama

The modern-day mythology, The Immortal Ashwathama, produced by Ronnie Scewvala, starring Vicky Kaushal and Sara Ali Khan, has been shelved. Earlier reports were floating around that following budget issues, the film had been put on hold. And now it has come to light that the movie has suffered heavy losses. As per one of the sources, Ashwathama has been in the prep stage for more than two years. Multiple recces had already been done, many meetings were held with the VFX team, and even an international action unit from abroad was roped in to train Vicky and Sara for their action-packed roles. Ronnie had already shelled out Rs. 30 crores for the project to get everything in place. It is said that the decision to shelve the film was taken when the Ronnie was not in agreement with director, Aditya Dhar on certain issues. Ronnie Screwvala realized that after investing a considerable chunk, the budget was indeed going out of control, and it would have been extremely difficult to get the money back even during the non-COVID times. The flick was planned with a budget in mind, but the pre-production cost kept increasing by the day and which is where the producer thought of better to let go of an investment worth Rs. 30 crores rather than burning pockets for a longer time. After meeting with the investors, actors, and the director, it was finally decided that the film be shelved. Having already worked with Vicky and Aditya Dhar before in Uri: The Surgical Strike, it was hard for Ronnie to take this step. Aditya Dhar is yet to take up any assignments, whereas Vicky and Sara have moved on with their new projects as now they can allocate dates that were earlier fixed for Ashwathama.
