The first episode of Netflix’s Heera Mandi will be directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali himself. The initial plan was for Vibhu Puri to direct all the seven episodes while Bhansali would only produce them. However, Netflix thought otherwise. A source close to the project informs that Heera Mandi has been Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s dream project for the last twelve years and the only reason he is not helming it is that he is involved in the post-production of Gangubai Kathiawadi. Now that the casting of Heera Mandi is on, it is felt that Bhansali must take charge of it. There are seven episodes in the series out of which he will direct the first, and the rest six shall be taken care of by Vibhu Puri with Bhansali supervising them. Vibhu has assisted Bhansali in Saawariya and has also written the dialogues of Guzaarish. While the rest of the cast of Heera Mandi hasn’t been zeroed upon yet, Huma Qureshi & Sonakshi Sinha have been given a go-ahead for the project.
