The 2021 Oscar-nominated movie, The Father, which had stars like Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Colman, will have a follow-up film called The Sun. It is confirmed that Hugh Jackman and Laura Dern have come on board for the movie, and it will be adapted by Zeller & Christopher Hampton from Zeller’s stage plays.
Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Colman have also been nominated for their roles in The Father, and both Jackman and Dern will have huge shoes to fill in this follow-up movie. As per the reports, while The Father talked about the devastating emotional impact of dementia, The Son will focus on adolescent depression.
The story is about Peter, played by Hugh Jackman, who is busy with his new partner Emma, and their baby gets a sudden jolt when his ex-wife Kate, played by Dern, appears with their angry teenage son, Nicholas. Although Peter strives to be a better father by understanding what Nicholas is going through, the weight of Nicholas’ condition is way more than what the family thinks. Coming back to The Father, apart from being nominated for Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress, the movie is also nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Film Editing, and Best Production Design at this years Oscars.
