Archies comics in collaboration with Netflix is all set to introduce the Riverdale teenagers to the new generation India. Named The Archies, the film adaptation of the globally renowned comics, will premiere exclusively on Netflix and will be bankrolled by Tiger Baby and Graphic India.
It will be a live-action musical set in the 1960s and will be helmed by Zoya Akhtar. Talking about the development, Zoya Akhtar said that she is super excited and proud to get the chance of bringing The Archies to life. She said that Archies has been an integral part of her teenage life, and the fact that the characters in it are iconic and known globally make her feel a little nervous. She has to ensure that the film brings back the nostalgia of a generation that grew up with the comic and also see that it resonates with the teenagers of today.
CEO and publisher of Archie Comics, Jon Goldwater, in a statement said that it is a matter of pride the comic characters resonate with fans globally and especially in India even after 50 years. He added that they are thrilled to partner with Netflix and have complete faith in Zoya Akhtar and her creative bunch to deliver an exciting take on Archie and the group. According to Pratiksha Rao, who is the Director for Film and Licensing for Netflix India, Zoya has a unique flair to make stories and characters in them relatable and that they are thrilled to bring to life the world of Archies to all the fans in India.
